R.D. stands for Récemment Dégorgée - 'recently disgorged' - meaning the wine has spent around fifteen years ageing on its lees before release, developing extraordinary depth and complexity.

The 2008 vintage holds particular significance as the first R.D. to be aged in Bollinger's distinctive curved 1846 bottle, a design that slows oxygen exchange to give the wine even greater longevity - it will continue to develop beautifully for twenty years or more if kept somewhere cool and dark.
